PRACTICE

Initially, I offer a complimentary consultation, so that we can freely assess, without obligation, if there is a strong match for services. This may seem like the most difficult time in your life, though it is also an opportunity for the greatest growth and meaningful positive change.

When working together, my hope is that you leave feeling good about your time spent in my office and not worried about the "50 minute hour." My sessions last a full hour, and I offer extended sessions, if that is desired. In couples work, I often recommend longer sessions, as this allows more time for each member of the couple to share and all of us to agree on forward-looking solutions.

“Make the present a gift.”
I work with an integrative approach, using a combination of the following models:

Cognitive-behavioral therapy – We will focus on your thought patterns, as they directly impact how you feel and are the only aspect in life directly under our control. We will focus on behavior and notice how positive behaviors serve your goals.

Family-systems therapy – We will look back, briefly, to understand old patterns that have shaped your thinking and instilled communication tendencies.

Person-centered therapy – We will look at barriers to being your best positive self/selves and ensure consistency exists between your feelings and your actions.

I provide counseling services for the following client populations:

ADOLESCENTSThere is tremendous pressure on young people today. I enjoy helping them prioritize and get to know themselves, so they can be on their way to a fulfilling life.

ADULTSAnything from the list of common issues below are a focus for working together. If your partner does not want couples therapy, we can still focus on that issue and see progress. When we change, others are forced to adapt and thus change.

COUPLESI have extensive experience working with couples. It is one of my favorite forms of therapy, as great progress can occur quickly.

FAMILIES/CHILDRENProblems manifest in different ways for family members. I focus on communication and boundary setting, with logical consequences for behaviors.

GroupsIt is wonderful to facilitate common issues in a group setting, where members can hear similar issues and feel supported in community.

My charge is to facilitate client’s goals, which may include improving relationships, improving communication, improving one’s mental state, improving parenting skills or integrating life changes to improve overall balance.

Common issues discussed in therapy:

THERAPY PROCESS: Beginning
Effective psychotherapy is a collaborative process. In order to achieve the goals of therapy, there must be a strong connection between the client and the therapist. In addition to forming a strong connection, the early stage of therapy will include an assessment of the presenting problem and the formulation of treatment goals to be met.

Middle
In the middle stage of therapy, we will have formed a strong bond and we will work together on achieving the goals of therapy. We will review history as a vehicle to understand the present. We will break old patterns and open new doors to a more fulfilling life. We will achieve this growth with a focus on communication skills, rational thoughts and self-serving behaviors that will enrich you and your relationships.

End
In the last stage of therapy, we will review the goals of therapy to ensure that they have been met. We will discuss the potential for new challenges that might arise. We will process any concerns about terminating the therapy. We will review all of the new skills that have been obtained to empower you along your journey.
